BCCA - A Guide to the Builder's Lien Act. The information contained in this Guide is intended to introduce and assist members of the construction industry with regard to Builders Lien Legislation in force in British Columbia at the time of printing this Guide.

INTRODUCTION The 1985 book Lien Act is designed to provide contractors and suppliers of materials or equipment with security for payment. The charge created by the statute is a lien against the land (or the mineral rights) in relation to which the materials or services were Size: KB.

Builders Lien definition in layman terms: A builders lien is typically used if you are having difficulty getting paid. When you file a builders lien you are registering a legal interest against the property you have done work on. You are showing you have a financial interest in the project, for monies owed for the work you have done.

Under the Act, you can file a Builders liens lien when you have completed improvement on a property, including work and providing materials, and there is an unpaid invoice. Like a mortgage, 1985 book lien will then go on the title of the property.

The Act is enforced where these individuals are not paid for their efforts. A lien gives an unpaid contractor, subcontractor, labourer, supplier or other relevant party the right to.
